Menu Translator — Spanish, Simplified Chinese, Russian, or Vietnamese
Help Meals on Wheels San Francisco make meal information accessible to the older adults we serve. We’re seeking volunteers to translate our printed Hot Meal Menu from English into Spanish, Simplified Chinese, Russian, or Vietnamese. You only need to translate into one of these languages.
What you’ll do
Translate dish names, side dishes, food items, and allergen statements for our six-week rotating menu, used from September 2026 through February 2027. The menu covers 84 meals: two meals a day, seven days a week, for six weeks.
We’ll provide an Excel workbook with approximately 180 short phrases, mostly dish names and food items. Repeated dishes are listed only once. Simply enter your translation beside each English phrase—no design or formatting work is required. A preview tab shows the full menu as you fill it in so you can review your translations in context.
We’re looking for volunteers who:
- Read and write fluently in English and Spanish, Simplified Chinese, Russian, or Vietnamese. Native or professional-level fluency is preferred.
- Are comfortable translating food and cooking vocabulary.
- Pay close attention to detail, particularly when translating allergen information.
- Use clear, everyday language that older adults will recognize.
- Have access to Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, or a compatible spreadsheet program.
Location and schedule
This opportunity is fully remote, and you can work from home on your own schedule.
